Jes Perry: Bio

Jes Perry

Ok... I used to have a formal "bio" here but frankly, I think it's simpler just give you a quick summary:

I started singing when I was three. Did the standard choir, madrigals, all state and all eastern choirs, talent shows, etc., throughout junior and senior high and was a classical voice major in college. Never really got into opera but did learn how to sing in French, Italian, German and Latin and spent a lot of time learning music by composers such as Debussy, Faure, Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Britton, Bartock and many more. Although I learned a lot and do enjoy singing classical, it really wasn't what I wanted to do.

After attending both the Hartt School of Music and the University of Connecticut, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and moved to Boston.

Took me a while to figure out about writing songs, playing the guitar and putting it all together, but slowly it began to happen.

My first performances were at an open mic in Allston at the Kells. I went to this particular open mic for almost three years and met a number of very talented singer/songwriters. Check the links section of the web site and you'll find some of them there.

In 2002, I put a full band together when my cd, Clearing My Head, came out and then gigged around town as much as possible. Playing with a full band is always a good time and really what I enjoy most.

These days, I'm mostly doing acoustic shows including originals and covers, and am in the studio recording my second cd of all original tunes.

Biggest musical influences: Beatles, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Indigo Girls, Pat Benetar, Pretenders, Annie Lennox, Crowded House (aka anything by Neil Finn), Stevie Wonder, CSN, Wendy and Lisa and many, many more.

Biggest wish: To speak cat and dog or failing that at least understand what the heck they're saying...

Best Concert attended: The Police Syncronicity Tour, any Neil Finn concert, Annie Lennox
